American Idol

Okay, I am really enjoying this season of "American Idol." Here are some of the reasons:

1. I have finally started to understand Paula Adbul's gibberish. It makes sense to me. She's the Ying to Simon's Yang. She gushes, he rolls his eyes. She slurs out something, he grimaces.

2. Simon is usually right in his critiques of the contestants and the show wouldn't be as good without him.

3. The top 7 singers are really good singers -- they all have interesting, and unique voices. Lil Rounds can sing -- she just can't pick a song that suits her. Anoop is a good singer too and he seems like such a likeable guy. Matt is also a good singer but a lot of his performances are hit and miss. I am rooting for Adam and Allison but it's looking like it will be an all-male top 4.

4. Did you watch that dance number that Paula Abdul choreographed tonight? That was a lot of fun. Paula's got some mad choreography skills. Her singing voice is like a squeaky toy but the girl can dance.

Head scratching moments:

1. Where have all the stars gone? It used to be you would get a celebrity singer to come in each week and work with the contestants. What gives? Have they run out of stars?

2. Was that the best they could do for star power last night? KC and the Sunshine Band? Thelma Houston? What was Thelma Houston wearing? I think she stole Big Bird's costume from Sesame Street.

Overall, I enjoyed the show. I can't wait until next week. Allison and Adam, I'm rooting for you.

Here is a YouTube video of Adam Lambert singing. It's just a photo of Paula and Simon giving him a standing ovation but you can hear Adam. Come on Fox let YouTube post the videos.

I've been feeling under the weather the last couple of weeks and am finally, hopefully feeling better for the long run. So what have I been watching in TV land that makes me feel better?

Monday nights, you can't go wrong with "Gossip Girl" on the CW, "The Big Bang Theory," and "How I Met Your Mother" on CBS," and "Dancing with the Stars," on ABC.

Tuesday nights for me is all about "American Idol" on Fox.

Wednesday nights is about "American Idol," and "Lost" on ABC.

Thursday nights are all about "Survivor," on CBS and "The Office," "30 Rock," and the last episodes of "ER" on NBC. I did catch the first episode of "Southland." Not sure about this show just yet.

Friday and Saturday nights are free nights -- no shows that I have to watch.

Sunday nights I like "The Simpsons," "Family Guy," on Fox and "Desperate Housewives," and "Brothers & Sisters" on ABC. I also like "The Amazing Race," and "60 Minutes" on CBS.

Also on Sundays, I like "The Tudors" on Showtime. And I really liked "The United States of Tara" also on Showtime which just ended its first season.

Happy Easter!

About this blog

Herald-Journal Entertainment Editor Jose Franco loves TV and watching DVDs on TV. As a kid, he watched as much TV as he could on his parents' black-and-white set with the bunny-rabbit antenna. On clear days, the family could watch ABC, CBS, NBC and PBS. He loved watching everything from "Good Times" and "Happy Days" to "The Waltons" and "Three's Company," from "Land of the Lost" to Porky Pig cartoons. Saturdays were spent watching "American Bandstand," "Soul Train" and a Saturday afternoon movie like "Creature from the Black Lagoon." He didn't get cable and color TV until college in the 1980s and was surprised to hear all the colorful words you could say on television. It was the birth of MTV and music videos. Over the years, his taste in television shows has expanded and become more refined, but he does admit to enjoying an occasional "Who's the Boss?" marathon. His favorite shows, at the moment, include "The Sopranos," "Weeds," "Nip/Tuck," "Big Brother," "Friday Night Lights," "Prison Break," "Lost," "Ugly Betty" and "Heroes." His Netflix list is filled with TV shows he's yet to watch such as "The Wire" and "House." Not enough hours in the day, he says. He loves TV so much that he even mourned when "Rome" and "Gilmore Girls" went off the air. And he thinks there's nothing better than sharing his thoughts on a favorite TV show around the watercooler at work.
