Jon and Kate Plus Hate

Admit it. You know you like to watch.

I have been oddly fascinated with Jon and Kate since all of the tabloid rumors started. She's supposedly a controlling witch. He's a spineless, cheater who is henpecked.

Okay, if you have two eyes, two ears and have watched even five minutes of "Jon and Kate Plus Eight" you know that the part about her being a "controlling ...." and he being "spineless" are absolutely true.

But why the fascination? People have marriage troubles every day. There are hundreds of reality TV shows out there. If we supposedly don't like Jon and Kate then why do we continue to watch?

My theory is we really did like Jon and Kate when the show first started many years ago. They were a young couple that wanted to have a large family. Kate's belly ballooned up like the Goodyear Blimp. They got a big family -- six babies plus their twin daughters. And they got a reality TV show. And they got lots and lots of perks because they were just soooooo cute as a family. Everyone wanted to help them out. Free groceries. Free clothes for the kids. Free teeth whitening and plastic surgery.

Kate went from a dowdy mom to a glamorous hot mom.

Where did things go oh so wrong? Kate was always controlling and negative toward Jon. He just sat there and took it. The poor guy must have a "Kick Me" sign on his back. But the negativity between the two just kept growing. You could tell that it was starting to tear them apart. They kept inching and inching away from each other on that tiny couch. Now, they don't even want to share a couch much less a home.

The show recently celebrated its 100th episode. Emeril came and cooked for the family. Wimpy Jon chopped up garlic -- maybe it repels Kate while the kids cleaned the strings off the green beans. Kate, on the other hand was her usual snarky self, but did get a reprimand from Emeril to leave Jon alone. She slapped Emeril with a spatula.

Monday night, TLC is promising that Jon and Kate will make a big announcement. Is the couple going to divorce? Maybe, they will seek marriage counseling. Maybe, they are going to quit their show and focus on their family. My guess is that the couple is going to announce a separation and will continue to do the show. They will need the money for Kate's hair apppointments, luxury vehicles and tanning. Jon needs money for his mid-life crisis.

Who suffers the most in all of this? Those eight adorable kids. TLC and Jon and Kate will hopefully put those kids first.

Maybe, Jon and Kate should endure a punishment they dole out to their kids:  Jon and Kate need a time out. They need to go their rooms. They need to go to bed without their supper. They need to start treating each other with respect.

I think there is good in all people. And I think that's why we watch "Jon and Kate". We know there is good in Jon and Kate deep down inside and we're hoping to see that side of them once again. We're hoping they do the right thing for those eight adorable kids.

Update:

Okay it's official. Jon and Kate have announced that they are separating. They've filed the papers.

What do you think? I think they didn't do enough or anything to save their marriage. Jon is immature and selfish. Kate is controlling and unfeeling. They aren't thinking about those eight kids.

Maybe, if Jon and Kate lose all their product endorsements and speaking engagements, they will spend more time on their marriage and family and less time on a jet-set career.

Kate was right on the placement of those crooked house. Although they didn't look that safe and look unfinished in the insides.

Leave your comments and vent on Jon and Kate:

Thank you Sarah Silverman. She sent out a Tweet on "Gooby" and now I'm obsessed with Gooby or at least the movie trailer for "Gooby." It's this film that is billed as so family friendly but it is just so weird looking. I LOL every time I see it.

Now there are Gooby parodies on Youtube....

A Gooby horror film.

A Gooby trailer mixed with the Where the Wild Things Are music ---

Enjoy.

I've been trying to see as many of the summer blockbusters: "X-Men," "Star Trek," "Up," "Land of the Lost" and "The Hangover." I've also seen a lot of interesting movie trailers. Here are the ones that stand out:

Okay, "The Bruno," and "Orphan" trailers wouldn't embed.

"H2"

A friend recommended these two trailers:

Real Housewives of New Jersey

Here is the first six minutes of The Real Housewives of New Jersey. (Warning: There are two expletives in this clip)

The Real Housewives of New Jersey is like a reality TV version of The Sopranos. Except this is from the perspective of the female members of the family.

Okay, the family members aren't mobsters, or goodfellas but Teresa's husband does carry big wads of cash and only pays in cash. Hmmm.... Teresa says "the economy is crashing" so that's why they only pay in cash. Hmmm..... And Caroline's son wants to open a strip club -- that's his life ambition. Hmmm.

Caroline, who is sort of the matriarch, of the group and Dina and Teresa don't like Danielle with her plumped up lips and chest. Danielle also has a sordid past which includes an arrest record.

Jacqueline is in the middle. She's the nicest of the ladies and is caught in the middle between all the women.  Caroline, Dina and Jacqueline are family and they've been best friends with Teresa forever.

The fourth episode found Danielle upset about her past indiscretions coming back to haunt her and Dina, Teresa and Carolina using the information to malign her character.

The show is like a soap opera and it airs on Bravo and it's pretty addictive.

About this blog

Herald-Journal Entertainment Editor Jose Franco loves TV and watching DVDs on TV. As a kid, he watched as much TV as he could on his parents' black-and-white set with the bunny-rabbit antenna. On clear days, the family could watch ABC, CBS, NBC and PBS. He loved watching everything from "Good Times" and "Happy Days" to "The Waltons" and "Three's Company," from "Land of the Lost" to Porky Pig cartoons. Saturdays were spent watching "American Bandstand," "Soul Train" and a Saturday afternoon movie like "Creature from the Black Lagoon." He didn't get cable and color TV until college in the 1980s and was surprised to hear all the colorful words you could say on television. It was the birth of MTV and music videos. Over the years, his taste in television shows has expanded and become more refined, but he does admit to enjoying an occasional "Who's the Boss?" marathon. His favorite shows, at the moment, include "The Sopranos," "Weeds," "Nip/Tuck," "Big Brother," "Friday Night Lights," "Prison Break," "Lost," "Ugly Betty" and "Heroes." His Netflix list is filled with TV shows he's yet to watch such as "The Wire" and "House." Not enough hours in the day, he says. He loves TV so much that he even mourned when "Rome" and "Gilmore Girls" went off the air. And he thinks there's nothing better than sharing his thoughts on a favorite TV show around the watercooler at work.
